The 2012 betas

Ten Ton Hammer reported that SevenCore, a free-to-play MMORPG from Noria of Seoul, was heading to closed beta, and that gPotato would publish it in the West. The closed beta began on 9 August 2012.

MMOBomb followed on 23 August 2012 with the open beta date: 6 September 2012. Its write-up picks out one feature, mounts that fight alongside the player as combat pets.

The Massively hands-on

On 17 August 2012 Jef Reahard published a quick look at the closed beta on Massively, carried on Engadget. He found three classes, Mage, Gunner and Warrior, and no dedicated healer. He also describes flying mounts and guild politics.

His verdict was short: a "solid time-waster," and nothing revolutionary. That is one writer's view after a hands-on session.

The 2013 Ignited Games listing

By 2013 Ignited Games carried SevenCore in a Spanish version. It was not among the five titles Ignited Games published in 2012, so it was added between 2012 and 2013.

In 2014 Ignited Games also ran a North American version next to the Spanish one. Who ran which servers, and for how long, is unclear.

What is still unclear

No closing date or current status is given for any version of SevenCore. Ownership changes between the gPotato beta and the 2013 listing are undocumented.

How it plays

Jef Reahard's hands-on for Massively, dated 17 August 2012, finds three classes, the Mage, the Gunner and the Warrior, and no healer: the game expects you to use potions. He singles out the old-school click-to-move controls. Mounts, in his words, are both transportation and combat companions with their own skills and levelling.

Karen Bryan wrote on 13 March 2012, after a demo at GDC, that you can fight while mounted and can also dismount and use the animals as combat pets. She describes a guild rivalry system: once you flag a guild as a rival, it is open war between the two.

How it was received

Two named pieces exist, both from Massively, and neither carries a score.

  • “Ultimately Sevencore seems like a solid time-waster”

    About: closed beta hands-on
  • “What's particularly fun about the animal mounts is that you can fight while mounted…”
